Anne Marie's Speechless Speech

Listening to silence and hearing a powerful message. Your voice doesn't have to work to get your point across. Just watch closely.

Without saying a word Anne Marie Schlekeway makes people stand up. Clap.

Although she can't talk, she has others talking. Telling each other their best qualities.

Jamie Weil, Speech Participant: "It was very inspiring. It made you reflect on everything from things going on in my personal life to my job to the energy I put out there and how that kind of effects what happens in your life."

The power point speaks for Anne Marie where she can't. ALS or Lou Gherig's disease impacted her tongue muscle first. She says it can't take away her voice.

Aeron Lancero, Speech Participant: "Words are powerful but being at this one was very encouraging, very enlightening."

Anne Marie inspires others with her speechless speech. With each appearance she motivates entrepenueurs and those with chronic health conditions.

Kris Gibbons, Speech Participant: "I was really moved by what it was about."

The funds from the appearances go toward ALS research, the quest for a cure for the disease.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association has selected Anne Marie Schlekeway of Chicago to be profiled in its national campaign promoting awareness of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease), a devastating neuromuscular disorder affecting tens of thousands of Americans.

Schlekeway is one of 31 extraordinary individuals featured in the MDA online series "ALS: Anyone's Life Story." People featured in the series talk about what it's like to live with ALS, and how they've learned to adapt to the deadly, progressively paralyzing condition.

Schlekeway, 33, learned she had ALS in March 2009.

Speechless Speech BIO:
In 2006, Anne Marie Schlekeway left her executive position at an international Training and Development firm due to her diminishing capacity to speak. 3 years later, after 5.5 years of symptoms, she was finally diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gherig's disease. In 2007, Anne Marie founded her own executive coaching company. Her Master Plan program focuses on sustainable excellence through planning, elevated self-care and wellness practices. Since her diagnosis in March of 2009, she created Kiss My ALS, an organization devoted to raising funds for ALS research and awareness of this condition through her blog at www.kissmyals.com, products and events. Kiss My ALS was featured in the Chicago Tribune, on Dec 14th, 2009.

Her book "The Care and Feeding of a High Powered Professional" will be published this fall, and she's currently rolling out a program for people battling a chronic health condition called "The Empowered Patient" and "The Empowered Caregiver" a program designed to diminish burnout and support health care professionals. She'll tell you, "It took losing the power of speech to find my own voice. That is the profound gift of my illness." She presents her “Speechless Speeches” to companies and organizations as a motivation and training tool. A powerpoint presentation delivered in silence with the exception of audience reaction and participation exercises, a speechless speech is a profound and moving experience. Each speech is customized to fulfill the intention of client and 50% of the fees are donated to ALS research.

Please email Anne Marie directly to inquire about a speechless speech for your organization, school or company at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Speaking rates vary depending on travel expenses, audience size and ability to pay.

I asked a few people to review their experience with the Speechless Speech~ It’s my intention to use this type of presentation to pay for a really cool wheelchair for me and raise money for ALS research. I will split the fees 50/50 from companies and organizations as well as support fundraising efforts for MDA’s Augies Quest and ALS TDI.

Here is what people have to say:

I wanted to send over a quick email and say thank you for your presentation yesterday at Rockit Ranch Productions. It really made a lot of sense and made me step back and think about everything, career wise and personally. It helps every once in a while for someone else to kick you into gear…and that’s exactly what this was.

Thank you again! I hope you have a wonderful week ;)

Kind regards,
Kelsey

Certainly. Anne Marie, I’ve noticed a couple of things after being around you a few times. One is that ALS has made you a highly intuitive person. Related to this, everyone that has crossed your path describes being at the “Speechless Speech” with a common phrase, “Anne Marie said…” To me this is more amazing than a room full of people in tears followed by uncontrollable laughter (an emotional roller coaster). You don’t speak! Yet, all in attendance leave describing the events as if they had a one-on-one in depth conversation with you for hours. You have created an experience with an unequaled impact. The focus, attentiveness, and interaction of the audience blows me away each time; truly effective.
The next amazing aspect is the duration for which your lessons stay with your new friends. I know people who were attend your our first event with you upstairs at Rockit. They are still talking about changes they want to make in their life inspired by you and the “Speechless Speech.” For this demographic that usually writes off an experience the moment it is over, I am continually taken aback. You and your cause forever have my support in anyway necessary.

Kevin Conroy Smith:
(Kevin is a professional speaker himself!)
I started Story From a New Friend in 2005. During the last 5 years we have heard hundreds of stories but nothing has compared to Anne Marie’s speechless speech. The power she had went deeper than even our organization imaged could happen from a story or personal experience. It has been over a month since her speech and I still use several of her key points in my day to day life. Few times in your life you come across a person or experience that forever changes the way you live your life, this speech was one of those experiences and Anne Marie is one of those people. Single handily the most powerful speech I have attended.

“Few times in your life you come across a person or experience that forever changes the way you live your life, this speech is one of those experience and Anne Maria is one of those people”

“I will always help carry the Anne Marie speechless speech torch, that is how powerful this is”

Mike Brown says:
Anne Marie’s ‘Speechless Speeches’ are proof that actions truly do speak louder than words. Anne Marie has carefully crafted a powerful message that speaks louder than any voice that could have delivered it. I feel privileged having been in her presence.
