I am eternally grateful for my sometimes overbearing and insistent mother. Just call her the “little general”. She brought something to my attention that I really didn’t want to admit to, be with or deal with: If I don’t bathe DAILY, I have that slightly sour sickly smell that grossed me out as a little kid whenever I hugged an elderly or sickly person. I’m now bathing twice most days. Bear in mind that I was never a pig! I have a very healthy interest in my presentation and appearance, I just can’t go a day and a half- unless I’m alone in my home- even when I’m too tired to care one iota.
I share this because it’s one of those things that no one will tell you, they’ll just take note and wrinkle their nose behind your back. I noticed my own scent had become positively vibrant in the past year, and no new brand of deodorant made any difference. I believe it’s a super combo of having a chronic condition that my body is working on healing AND the beginning strains of menopause. I do notice I’m flashing hot and cold frequently and sweating a lot more than someone who can’t work out for long should!
I’d like to hear from some men out there to see if any of you have noticed the same stinky thing… sans hot flashes of course!
I have noticed that the more clean I eat… read no meat, processed foods and only fruits and veggies… the better I smell. Even on a full out raw food cleanse, when my body is throwing off tons of stuff. I’ll address the full benefits I’ve had from following a 70-80% raw food diet in an upcoming post, however if you are struggling with your energy and fatigue, I highly recommend eating fruits and veggie juices and exploring the world of raw cuisine. (I went from sleeping 10-12 hours a day to a much more manageable 7-9 hours including naps.) Even if you do raw food until dinner and then eat what you please.
So I recommend taking more frequently showers/ baths and circulating your sheets and towels more frequently. Also, you might want to adopt a confidant who’s sufficiently vested in your wellness and self image to keep you posted on all that Jazz. I have noticed to my mother’s glee, that when I bathe before bed I sleep better, and to my own glee the sheets last a full week!
Grab a rubber ducky and some sweet smelling bath salts and rock on with your indulgent bathing self. I know I will be.
